A Deep Dive into the “Raw Water” Craze | The Daily Show

Water:
whether it’s smart, sparkling, or secretly vodka,
it’s all around us. But a new movement believes
that just like Trump, we’re drinking water all wrong. The so-called raw water trend. Something called raw water. -Raw water.
-Raw water. Techies in San Francisco are guzzling it
by the gallon full, and stores that sell raw water
are running out. LYDIC: From Bernie Bros
to Silicon Valley, raw water
is the health trend of 2018. And leading the movement is the clothing optional
founder of Live Water, Mukande Singh. I couldn’t wait to see what this raw lifestyle
is all about. Oh. You wore clothes. We’re not doing… Okay. What exactly is raw water? So, raw water is unsterilized, pristine spring water that still has a lot
of the healthy probiotics in it. There are probiotics
in Live Water? Like the stuff that Jamie Lee
Curtis keeps on pushing? Yeah, this is
the healthiest choice for water. Live Water’s thousands and
thousands of customers agree, even though the mainstream
is pretty skeptical. Water is water. It’s… doesn’t have probiotics
in it. Damn it. Clothes again. (groans) Why shouldn’t I drink raw water? You could get sick. People going out and drinking
from streams is risky. But some might say
that raw water is the most pristine water
you can drink. It might be. But how do you know
what’s upstream from it? There might be animals
contaminating it or human waste contaminating it. Okay, but what are
your qualifications? A doctorate in molecular biology and a master’s
in public health nutrition. Okay. Touché. And Mukhande’s qualifications? Uh, I’ve studied a lot of yoga and self-meditation
and journeying. Okay. But even without
mainstream degrees, Mukhande’s business
is skyrocketing. After all, he’s selling the one
thing that lasts forever. So, Live Water is freshest
within one lunar cycle, because it can turn green
if the water gets too hot. I’m sorry, I thought I heard you
say that the water turns green. It turns green
because there’s healthy… microbes in it. I’ll be right back. Got it. Healthy water
should turn green. Well, no, it shouldn’t. -Hmm?
-Water is water. It’s clear. It’s-it’s clear
until one lunar cycle. -Are you following?
-Not at all. Most people in the world
would give anything to have a clean water supply. What’s wrong
with turning on a tap? I’ll ask the questions here. What’s so wrong about tap water? So, tap water has a lot of synthetic things, like fluoride and chloramine. -Oh, my God.
-Fluoride? We put fluoride in the water
to prevent tooth decay. These are great
public health achievements. Okay, so fluoride is good. No, fluoride makes people
more docile. It’s a-a mind control drug. The government is controlling
our minds with fluoride? They could be. Oh, shit. What mind control drugs? That sounds like something
someone would say who’s being controlled
by the mind. I don’t understand what the… I don’t even understand
the question. I mean, this guy is
a-a charlatan who’s part of
a whole anti-science movement. But if fluoride being
a government-induced mind control drug
is anti-science, where is Live Water getting
all these science-y charts and evidence? There’s a lot of evidence
to support that if you just go
to the third page of Google. The third page of Google? That’s where it
really makes sense. When you say “evidence,”
do you mean “conspiracy theory”? It’s not a conspiracy
if it’s true. You know, 9/11,
I think we all know what-what really happened there. What really happened there? Go to the third pa-page
of Google. Okay. So I did. But the only thing
I discovered about 9/11 is that
it’s Ludacris’ birthday, and the only thing I discovered
about Live Water is that… Holy shit!
How much does this cost? 2.5-gallon glass jugs
are $22 each and then $12 to $16 per jug. So, basically, it’s like
the cost of a bottle of water and then lighting $28 on fire. It’s a new idea.
I can understand why there might be hesitation, but I recommend people try it. Well, just like I told Wolf
Blitzer at that cocktail party, I’ll try anything once. So I agreed to venture deep
into the wilderness. So, here is
our beautiful spring. LYDIC:
This is where you get water? -You want to try some?
-Yeah! I’ll wait for…
You go first, and then I’ll… I’ll get right to it. (slurps) Oh, God. Please don’t let there be
a dead body upstream. (slurps) Tastes good, huh? -Tastes like water.
-Yeah. With, uh, healthy probiotics
and minerals in it. Probably a little bit
of animal poop. Just say, hypothetically, I tried just a little bit
of spring water. What’s the worst thing
that could happen? You could get dysentery,
you could get cholera, you could get giardia. The Oregon Trail diseases? Oh, God. All the Oregon Trail diseases and all the new ones
that have come since. Does someone have… a bucket? In the end,
much like the Oregon Trail, raw water and
other anti-science movements will probably forge ahead. But, as for me,
I feared a different fate.

  1. ….why do I feel like, at this point, mr. longhair man didn't really care if his 'business' went up in flames or not?

  2. Ok here you go. As someone who camped alot never drank Straight from a creek or a pond bears shits everywhere things die in water plants rots in it just saying. Money is in the back of this movement

  3. So, that means I could sell the water from my artesian well by just slapping a catchy name and using meaningless buzzwords to market it?

  4. If electing Trump as president, and believing all his bullshit that Americans were not stupid enough there's this, "raw water".

  5. He is making inmens profit he is basically selling glass water containers so he is doing like 2000% profit on the "raw" materials. He must be doing something illegal if he is doing better than any drug pusher. With that kind of price no wonder he makes money even if one Californian per day buys his water because he has been convinced with deception he still be doing enough to eat if he uses only 500$ a month imagine if he sells more then that. And no one in the comments seem to agree with him so my guess is people buy that so he shuts up and people throw that watter away or give it to his plants.

  6. Only problem i have is shes marian Nestle ,nestle's water comes out of a city fire hydrent i hauled it for years for walmart its just filtered tap water i just put my own filter its cheaper but they have lots of live water in south America ,just dont drink it ,itl give you the shits.

  7. This is trend. I drink raw water and have been doing since a child but not really because its trendy. It's not my main source of water but people really do drink this for fun

  8. So he takes free unfilter water puts it glass jars and sells it to rich stupid people. I see nothing wrong with sperating a fool from his money.

  9. Fluoride and the other heavy metals and things are in the tap water. We should filter our water and boil it. Skits like this mock the truth because they want the masses to stay dumb and not do the right things for theirselves.

  10. I live in the country side and my water comes from a well in the forest. When it rains heavily, it gets muddy and murky, and I have to filter it before drinking and cooking. Once I found out a possum had nested in the well and had to politely invite her out. She wasn't happy about it.

  11. I'm gonna start selling tepid, stagnant, puddle water… we're working on a more marketable name. If anyone knows an unemployed, self righteous, dirty yoga hippie, I am looking for a shill (spokesperson).

  12. Remember as a kid, went camping with my dad in the mountains. We went upstream to get some water because downstream a skunk died in the water ??

  13. I’m not too into thinking “unfiltered water is harmless”, but seriously people, it’s not 100% you drink from a stream you shit yourself to death starting immediately. You wouldn’t be alive if that were the case; neither would anyone else; because everyone would’ve died a few million years ago.

Seriously. Think for a single second.

  14. I am not sure who the blonde is but she’s phenomenal I watch you all the time be careful she may take your job LOL great cut

  15. No…. fluoride does not help keep teeth healthy. There is no evidence of that. On the contrary fluoride is put in our water supply because it’s known to crystallize our pineal gland. Another way of dumbing down the masses for easier control and manipulation. Look it up..!!

  16. The water turns green…its because of algae in the water not probiotics. And the fact that he doesn't know that or willingly hides it should tell you all you need to know.

  17. I am from Haiti me, my family used to drink water straight from the river nobody was never sick, my grandpa used to smoke tobacco over 80 years old and still working with a hoe very strong at that age, grandma used to cure the family disease with a simple tea superior to modern meds – I think scientists are lying to make money!

  18. I drank water from an iceberg stream in the Alps and shat myself the next day. I'm sticking to tap water now

  19. Life is apparently too easy now. We don't have problems so we are deliberately giving ourselves some, like not vaccinating to get old killer diseases back, and drinking unclean water for the same purpose. I guess the ordinary methods of suicide are too slow for these people?

  20. This severely makes me question if teachers deserve to be paid more. Occasionally running into a dumbass is normal but when they are in massive legions that's highly disturbing. Learn how to think instead of allowing yourself to be told what to think. Then logic would prevail and opinions would be taken with extreme lightness. And if grammatical correction is your best strength you're a loser.

  21. People living in mountains like Afghanistan, Pakistan etc etc drink raw water from waterfalls , water coming out of earth etc etc , and they live longer and healthy life and don't get sick , all this I know coz I have friends and family members living there with much strong body and rarely get sick . Food is all natural and not processed crap like in big cities . This guy maybe making money from selling this water but yes it's true that "raw water" is healthy .

  22. Notice how he says the same things over and over like they're magic words that should make you say "oh, yeah, I guess you know what you're talking about" without actually understanding what they mean or imply. That's how ignorance leads to trendiness. Worse, that's how you can manipulate ignorant people through through trendiness. Movements like these are merely business opportunities that people saw that takes advantage of the ignorance of others, and says "any proof you can come up with that says I'm lying (or just ignorant and wrong) is obviously part of a conspiracy to hurt and/or control us." Sadly, it's really easy to fall into traps like these, because they can sometimes bring out people with false credentials or, worse, people with actual degrees in the relevant fields being paid to say whatever they're told.

  23. Unfiltered water has feces in it, from something
    even insects
if you dont want chemicals that arent h2o in the water get a filter or a well
you could get cleaner water than what he is peddling
by using a urine evaporation still that creates droplets of water that roll down a tarp by gravity

  24. The guy is a trailer park trash scoundrel with a BS DISGUSTING stream up hill. I wouldn’t drink from that stream for $1 million.

  25. the facts are most water streams are polluted across America and then their being transported thru rain putting the cancer enduing things that trump hasnt deregulated back into our majority of ponds pools est such as cosmetics waste wastes mc donalds was forced to regulate out of there degreasers common sense would dictate this is retarded with the rise in people who are getting cancer should have you worried

  26. Lol the water turns green. Water doesn't turn green…fluoride is a mind control drug?? Hahaha this guy is very cooked. ?????

  27. Not sure what i am more upset about. his cultural appropriation to give himself the last name 'Singh' or that I did not sell this product before he did and rake in the $$$ at the expense of idiots.

  28. My brother got Giardia (beaver fever) from a small drink from stream while our family was hiking. Took him moooonths to get well. No joke.

  29. I'm so happy groups like the daily show are helping to educate people. The anti-science movement is scary stuff

  30. fun generation, not vaccinated & drinks any random liquid on the ground xD try to stay away from yellow snow tho!

  31. Raw water is really good; progressive nations in other parts of the world partake in it all the time! Specifically in Africa, where they really emphasize raw. And also don't have access to treated water. And also probably think San Franciscans are retards.

  32. I'll save everyone some time: "Mukhande Singh"'s real name is Christopher Sanborn. The "raw water" he sells comes from the Deschutes Valley Water District, AKA the utility company which provides treated municipal tap water to the residents of Jefferson County, Oregon. They charge their residential customers about 1/10th of a penny per gallon from the tap for the same water this hippie con artist is bottling in glass jugs and re-selling to hipster dumbasses at an 8,800% markup.

    You're welcome.
