EPA Allows For MORE Cancerous Toxins In Drinking Water & Journalism’s Future In Question

Thanks to a recent decision by the EPA, more
than a 110 million American citizens will now be subjected to increased amounts of cancer
causing corporate toxins in their drinking water. I’m with Farron cousins tonight and we’re
going to talk about that. Farron, look, you know, I, I gotta tell you,
we all expected the worst from the EPA here because I really, the only way I can describe
the EPA lately, I’d say over the last two decades really is, is a captured as a captured
agency. The, the industry has totally captured the
agency. Don’t you agree? Oh, absolutely, and now that we have, you
know, Andrew Wheeler, who is still the acting EPA administrator, he’s more than willing
to kind of carry on this legacy of let’s let corporations do whatever they want to do and
I’m just going to sit here, run this agency and not actually enforce any of the rules. And that’s what we’re seeing right now. These chemicals that we’re talking about,
these are the, perfluorooctane sulfonate, PFOS, and the, perfluorooctanoic acid. Okay. Let, let me give you the history on these
because as you know, I tried the case on one of these. The, the, what happened was 3M decided that
the PFAS was so dangerous that they stopped making it. They stopped manufacturing it and there’s
the, the letter that came out in the trial on PFOA, was where they’re discussing the
idea that they have a responsibility to, to citizens. They have a responsibility to, to the government. They have responsibility to their shareholders
to pull it off the market because it is so dangerous and the toxic cost and the financial
costs down the road would be huge. So they pulled it off the market and so now
they, they’re the ones that developed it. They said it’s this dangerous, but now we
have an EPA administrator who says, you know, Andrew Wheeler says, no we’re not going to
actually say it’s dangerous. Matter of fact, we’re not even going to put
any limits on what can be sold, any reasonable limits on what can be sold or what, what you
find in your drinking water. So people are drinking this right out of the
tap. They are, and here’s the worst part, you know,
you mentioned this has gone on for a long time and yes it has. This is not just Wheeler, I mean the EPA has
delayed putting any legal limits on this for 20 years. So we’re going back four different administrations
at this point from Clinton to Trump here. They all knew this, they all had the same
material, except it’s evolved over the years to show even worse things. But even back in the late 90’s, they knew
this stuff was toxic. They knew it was going to cause cancer. And look right now, there is no legal limit
on PFOAs and PFOS’. Michigan right now has 15 sites contaminated
by the PFAS Chemicals. They lead the charge. New York 10 sites, but 110… North Carolina. Yeah, North Carolina is absolutely contaminated
with Gen-X and 110 million people, just to put it that way, if you’re staying in there
with two other people, one in three of you roughly percentage wise, is drinking these
chemicals on a daily basis. And what we know about the chemicals has been
related, clearly been related to cancer. If you take a look at, we’ve talked about
on this show, take a look at the, the, The Devil We Know that’s on Netflix right now. It really, really tells the story. Okay. So the point is I don’t really see relief
for agencies. I mean for consumers. This is an agency that has for 20 years decided
I’m not going to do this. And the reason why is the lobbying money is
so big. The influence of these companies that make
this is just so monstrous that it’s really tough for the consumer to fight back. How does the consumer go to Washington and
say, you know, well, what about us? Can we give you some? There is no lobbying money that the consumer
gives. And the unfortunate thing we’re going to have
to live with this, Wheeler certainly is not going to pull us out of it. Just to make one more note here, the EPA in
December, December 2018, so two months ago, they said that these particular chemicals,
we’re talking about, they cause developmental effects in fetuses or women who are breastfeeding. Low birth weight, accelerated puberty, skeletal
problems, testicular cancer, kidney cancer, liver damage, thyroid damage, cholesterol
changes. And in all that, Wheeler says, no, we’re not
going to give you any limits that you can actually go by. Another brutal day for journalism as Gannett
started slashing jobs all across the country in a cost cutting move and the cuts have not
been minor cuts. This was followed by major cuts at both Buzzfeed
and Huffington Post. Joining me to talk about this is Mollye Barrows,
Mollye long history in journalism. When you see this happening… Yes. You’ve seen it before, haven’t you? Oh absolutely. Give me your take. This is not a, this is not a minor issue here
is it? No, I mean a thousand jobs just last week
alone. You’re talking about journalists, other folks
in the media and these positions are not going to be filled again, especially in the world
of digital journalism and that giant sucking sound that you hear, that is Facebook and
Google taking up all that online ad revenue because they do targeted advertising. So media outlets that are maybe even seeing
an increase in audiences, they’re not able to attract the advertisers like Google and
Facebook which dominate the digital world. The web is their home. That’s their turf and these online media outlets
just simply can’t compete Pap. Is it a credibility issue too? I wonder you, you gotta wonder is how, has
the, has the public been charmed in this idea that journalism has failed us? That, that we, we don’t, we don’t see real
journalism anymore. What is your take on that? I think you’re right. To, to a great extent when you see these slashes,
there have been some critics that say, well, this is the result of bad journalism or this
is the result of journalists who aren’t doing their jobs and people don’t trust them anymore. And that’s sort of the social approach to
it. The service part of journalism, if you will,
but it has nothing to do with that, and has everything to do with their business model. Now does trust play a role? And if you’re going to choose a social media
story, perhaps like a Slate story or Huffington Post story, you wouldn’t necessarily go to
their website to find that story. You might see it appear on Facebook or you
might see it on Instagram or you might see it somewhere else. So they click on that and they’re not going
directly to the origination, you know, the outlets where these originated from. Yeah, so part of it also is found in a generational
shift. You know, I’ve seen this coming with HuffPost
for quite some time. HuffPost used to be a lot more responsible. Now I call it kinda celeb nosh, you know,
is what, you know, what’s happening in the celebrity world. There have one, they have one voice when it
comes to politics about Trump, you know. Rather than, rather than talking about a Trump
story, why are they talking about environment? Why are they talking about corporate malfeasance? Why are they talking about issues that affect
the American worker or the American, you know, the American taxpayer in so many different
ways? The same thing with CNN, you know, we’re going
to see this with CNN. I, I really think CNN is going to be next
on the chopping block, but you also have Facebook coming and saying, we want a Facebook news
service, right? That’s exactly right. So that’s the other danger, I think in this. If you have Google, you also have Yahoo News,
they’re actually laying off some people as well. You have Facebook. If they’re going to be absorbing a lot of
this content that’s already out there, then trust becomes basically subjective. You know, people are like, well, it’s going
to be free for me to get it on Facebook, even if they’re borrowing from outlets that I may
or may not, it’s free as opposed to going and paying for a subscription service to a
New York Times or New Yorker or whoever that you might have to pay for your news. So you mentioned trust earlier, trust goes
out the window when people start charging for journalism, they don’t care, it becomes
a nonissue. But when it comes to basically Facebook owning
this news, then that is the big issue when it comes to trust to me because we can’t trust
them. They’ve been proven to be liars over and over
again and they’re going to gear content to what people want to see instead of challenging
them. So we saw a story last week, Farron and I
covered, either the last week or the week before, where you have Zuckerberg coming in,
telling news organizations like small newspapers that we want to help you. We’re here, we’re here, we’re going to spend
$300 million dollars to help you be a better journalism vehicle, right? They’re not interested in that. They’re interested in two things. A, Facebook, they want to change their image
by buying off journalists and B, they want to own that organization. We’ve got about 30 seconds, what your take? I think corporate owned media in general is
what’s killing this country, whether it’s TV, online or newspaper. Newspaper’s dead. Online is certainly struggling when it comes
to online media outlets. TV, not seeing the same number of reporters
laid off because their advertising revenue isn’t being challenged like it is in the digital
platform. But corporate owned media in general, they
all want to own your content because you are a barcode to all of them. Right, right. Mollye, thanks for joining me, okay.

  10. I guess all the rich Republicans drink, cook in, bath in, brush their teeth with… filtered water. As do all their friends and extended families. Otherwise… they'd care… wouldn't they?

  12. yeah they can afford the 100k dollar of clean drinking water while the rest of poor people have to drink contaminated waters.

  13. Listen to what Farron, that attorney, and that young lady are talking about and listen carefully because it IS a man, woman, human created problem. And it's a solvable problem and it is a WAY bigger threat than the atmosphere around us (not that the air we breathe is any better cause we ALL have to inhale and live in it 🙁 ) and the pieces of shit that run the United States of America regardless of political party simply do not or haven't shown that they care at all 🙁

  14. Slowly go out with a whimper with cancer in pain or get one of the superpower cowards to push the button and go out in fire and ice quickly! We should make the rich elite drink this water and eat the crops grown with Monsanto herbicides.

  15. This shows how corrupt our government is. . They’re killing us and now trump wants to deny health coverage to Americans who can’t afford it

  16. Something to think about, with TTIP (NAFTA between the USA and the EU) Europe could be forced to allow liquids from the USA which contain those toxins. Fortunately for now we have been able to block TTIP, but they (multinationals) will keep trying to get it accepted in a new jacket.

  17. I don't feel bad for them at all because they weren't doing much of a job concerning Trump , Bernie or many other issues. Good riddance for bad rubbish. The good people will make their own jobs , the rest of them …….learn to code……..

  18. Regulations are removed to protect corporations from getting sued by the people they harm.

What part of that do Trump supporters not understand?

  19. When you Google news stories from news outlets you can't make comments. You either have to subscribe and sign up to the outlets before you can make a comment. So I move on if I can't make a comment without signing up. Is this hurting the news business?

  20. What the hell is wrong with this fuck. Sorry for the language but God almighty, I already can't drink my water. It made my tongue crack and bleed! No municipalities around the us are even barely safe. You can't filter this stuff out of the water.

  21. Attention US Citizens!!! War crimes have been committed against a US civilian on the soil of our homeland. I am requesting your voices united as one, to hold these terrorists accountable. Mark Conlee has been held above the law. Montrose, Lee County, Iowa supporters of terrorists.
I was intentionally exposed to glyphosate for over 5 years. The chemicals were applied to my private property. I was denied a trespass complaint against my assailant. This was an intentional chemical attack for the purpose of causing me serious injury or death. My assailant was held above the law in redeveloping his legally non conforming property from being compliant to State building code and drainage laws. He was held above the law in every illegal action he committed.  When his redevelopment was denied from being recorded on the county plat map, they (gov. officials) determined his remedy was to eliminate me at any cost. My terrorists were and continue to be my government officials. I followed the standard procedures to remedy the situation early on. My attorney clearly got a better offer from the opposing party. He advised me that he had filed the complaint against the liable party, reassuring me in the few times he did respond to my emails. There was a civil court trial. Not filed my my attorney against the liable party. In the civil case my attorney suppressed all the evidence supporting my allegations, but I was still not told he had not filed the complaint against the liable party. My case was and still is indisputable. The civil court without the evidence still cited my right to use my private property as I wished. That order was never complied to or enforced. Private property rights are Federally protected rights. Not recognized in this case. The local public impostors clearly conspired to deprive me of my rights under color of law.

The FBI became involved, supposedly to investigate on my behalf. The agent took 14 months to come to my home specifically for the purpose of reviewing my hard copy evidence. He arrived advising that he had no intention of reviewing my evidence, he advised me to verbally tell him the story. Hearsay is not evidence. He did not recognize private property rights are Federally protected. Two hours after he left my home I received in my mailbox a letter from the FBI headquarters in Washington DC signed by a deputy assistant director JC Hacker. The letter stated that the agent who came to my home had determined no violation of Federal law has occurred. I proceeded to contact this agent and let him know that his fraudulent, incompetent investigative skills were obviously not acceptable. Common man can recognize this as a  clue that shows the intent to continue to violate my private property rights and continue to torture me. It is not possible for mail to travel from DC to Iowa in a period of two hours. My government has tortured me using chemical warfare. There is no gray area in determining that this is a fact. The chemicals cause a severe skin condition, within three months I was completely unable to function. Wearing clothes was unbearable. I was a self employed upholsterer operating my business from this private property. It was not possible for me to work as the skin eruptions oozed puss and blood constantly, this was a full body condition. It was obvious from simply looking at me that I was suffering severely. These terrorists had no empathy for my suffering. Their only concern was for one of them to acquire my private property at any cost. They committed criminal offenses on this special ones behalf. I was criminally charged multiple times by the City and the States attorney based on fabricated laws. All charges were dismissed, that only made my attacker more aggressive.

My options boiled down to fleeing to escape the chemicals or invoking my second amendment rights. I fled. When I fled I was also blind and homeless for the following 4 years. I understand it is the responsibility of the FBI to investigate corrupt State and local officials. I understand it is the responsibility of the US Attorney to prosecute corrupt State and local public officials. This FBI agent did not look into financial records for a bribe that has been paid. He did not question any of my witnesses, he did not interview my Drs. He did nothing that would follow standard procedure required for a competent investigation.

I have never committed any criminal offenses. I purchased my property because it had exactly what I needed to provide my livelihood, a home to raise my son and it was in my budget to purchase. I traveled to Washington DC to change the laws allowing people with circumstances that will not allow for them to work outside the home. I had that situation. I was selected for the next habitat for humanity home and when I acquired financing of my property I withdrew my application, passing that home on to another needy family. I have always acted in the best interest of the community. I am the only person that I can find on record that has been a victim of chemical warfare committed by my government for the purpose of elimination. My condition is chronic. I have a life sentence of suffering from acts of torture by my government. I am pleading for all fellow American's to unite as one voice forcing government accountability for the war crimes they have committed against this civilian. I need a leader in the process to proceed with my goal. There could not be a more relevant case concerning the rights of a completely innocent citizen of the USA. If you are bound to one of the Political parties it is irrelevant. This is a nonpartisan issue. These rights are inherent to all Americans.  This is a moral issue of right and wrong as well as a serious criminal offense. @t

  22. Well, let's wait until ALL THOSE TRUMPTARDS get sick and get cancer so that they will then come to their senses and realize this was Trump's doing by firing the person in charge of the EPA before Trump came along and then hire a new EPA director who he knew would reduce and eliminate regulations all for nothing but making or "saving" these companies money!
So they can just thank their Trump lord for them getting sick!!!

  23. I'm so done with America. This isn't a free country anymore. This is a country overrun by corporations and the rich. It's past time for a revolution
    Bernie is our Mocking Jay

  24. When the Affordable Healthcare Act was being considered, I recall the Republican pundits talking about so called "Death Panels." Now that those same Republicans are in power, I don't hear anything about the real Death Panels caused by the lack of affordable healthcare, breathing more polluted air, and drinking more polluted water. It seems the folks on the right are perfectly ok with no healthcare and more pollution.

  25. So whats a good alternative? Bottled and filtered water. I get my 5 gallon jugs filled at my local Safeway. At this point I dont know.

  26. Its very simple, the world is overpopulated and some individuals are willing to do the dirty work to rectify the problem. The general public are ok with this until it hits home and becomes a personal problem
