How to treat hip labral tears

S DOCTOR.>>IT’S A CONDITION THAT CAN MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO WALK MUCH LESS RUN. IT’S CALLED A HIP LABRAL TEAR. IT OFTEN OCCURS IN ATHLETES BUT IT CAN HAPPEN TO JUST ABOUT ANYONE. AND THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM , THE LABRUM IS THE RING OF CARTILAGE LINING THE SOCKET. IT PROVIDES CUSHIONING AND STABILITY. AND IF IT TEARS, IT CAN BE VERY PAINFUL. MERCY MEDICAL CENTER DOCTOR MARC HUNGERFORD SAYS IT’S NOT UNCOMMON.>>IT IS USUALLY A FAIRLY RAPID ONSLAUGHT. NOT SOMETHING THAT DEVELOPS OVER A LONG TIME. SOMETHING THAT STARTED A MONTH AGO AND IS QUITE SEVERE AND MIX IT DIFFICULT TO WALK. I CAN SEE THE SMALL AREA WHERE THE CONTRAST MATERIAL IS GOING UP INTO WHAT LOOKS LIKE A CUT IN THE BLACK TRIANGLE. THAT IS THE LABRUM TEAR.>>IT CAN BE CAUSED BY SPORTS ACTIVITIES; OR FROM INJURIES, LIKE FALLING; OR AN IMPINGEMENT IN THE JOINT, OR DEGENERATION. SO WHAT DO YOU DO ABOUT IT?>>IF YOU ARE GETTING SOMEBODY WHO IS YOUNG AND HAS A NORMAL , HE WENT TO REPAIR THE LABRUM INSTEAD OF NURSING IN THE LONG. THE LABRUM FORMS A SEAL AROUND THE BALL. IF YOU ARE MISSING THAT, THEN YOU WILL GET EARLY DEGENERATION.>>THAT MEANS ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY TO REPAIR THE LABRUM. HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS, DR. HUNGERFORD SAYS LATER PATIENTS CAN OFTEN RETURN TO FULL ACTIVITY. DONNA: BY THE WAY, DR. HUNGERFORD SAYS HE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SURGERY IF THE PATIENT HAS SIGNFICANT ARTHRITIS IN THE JOINT BECAUSE IT’S LIKELY THE JOINT WILL CONTINUE TO DEGENERATE.

  1. It should also be noted that the surgery is only ten years old, and not very good. Most who have had the surgery still have pain. Sincerely, someone with a labrum tear.

  2. Labrem tears have been repaired by Drs.
Though they are predjucre as to who will get the best treatment…. I had a Dr tell me if you were a young athlete I'd prepare it … But at your age remove it. Sorry Charlie that doesn't ring right w me. That had to do with a torn meniscus. He referred me to another Dr. Said do not have surgery . stay with the PT exercises and physical med Drs. Actually little was done due to circumstances. And that knee is fine. I just can't totally straighten like a rockette or something.
I do have a laberal tear on the left side. I was fine for years now it's causing me problem s.. Or something is having heck of a time getting proper diagnosis. Plus now insurances have become ISSUES.
I'm entitled to ongoing PT due to other problems but there had been lack of cooperation. And other setbacks and interferences. But I did for years have no pain on left side. Now it's groin and down my leg… Have had MRI but need proper evaluation and proper exercises. Carrying heavy groceries gallons of water did a etc. Doesn't help. It now strains e loses of strength experienced due to lack of exercise. Any way bottom line.. If the right people are with you. An of unlimited finances.. You'll get best treatments. Still you need the right people behind you
Boy could I use a friend with a car.. Was strong enough to do it all by myself. After.couple of yrs of body bldg. But now N.G. it's more like when I was in my 20s and early 30s… I need access to a ride….it has nothing or little to do with age…. But being held back like this and so stressed can make you old before your time.
It's not who you know but who knows you at times.. Yep rainy day and I'm feeling pain..
    Lord Have Mercy…
Also need to move.. Long outgrew this apt. Need washer dryer in apt. House or blue too. And storage.
Before you opt for surgery.. Try a physical med. Specialist. (Physyiast) and PT w exercises. Be careful with hands on. Though some are great. Lots are lazy.. Esp
Now if they have on line clients to…. And some can be just mean… Remember there people too.
Best are Pts who work w exercises pphysiologist. And if you can join a gym were the faciliay may be located. It's you best bet…
I had one who had a whole circuit in his office. A nice private gym. But he was short tempered.. And watched the clock. Even though I was able to help some patients in gym w some machines.
Actually I wanted to work in PT once I was feeling better. But not an option. Need. Good salary. No time to go back to college.anyway ended up running into problems again and had setbacks…. Now too major to discuss here. But I'm down to minus square one
